Learning Development
Following the removal of National Key Stage 3 Levels and Assessments, it is a requirement for all schools to use their own assessment methods to help young people achieve their best. At Soar Valley College, we use “Learning Pathways” in Year 7 and Year 8.
The descriptors identify the knowledge or abilities a student needs to demonstrate in that year, to go on and achieve a particular grade at the end of Year 11. For example, a student in Year 7 with a Learning Pathway of a 5 would be on course to achieve a Grade 5 in that subject in their GCSE examination.
For Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 we use predicted GCSE grades, though for Year 9 we still have our own assessment grids.
You can find the assessment grids for Key Stage 3 below. At Key Stage 4 we use the marking and grading schemes given to us by the Examination Board.
If you would like further information on the curriculum for this subject, please see the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 curriculum sections where you will find detailed booklets that outline Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
